Prevention

The best way to survive a crash is to prevent it from happening in the first place. Before you get behind the wheel ask yourself a few questions:

  • Am I too tired to be driving?
  • Will I be distracted by the radio, cell phone or other distractions?
  • Am I feeling too angry or upset to drive?
  • Have I taken any substances that might impair my driving ability?
  • Will I wear my seatbelt and make sure all of my passengers buckle up, too?

Over the past five years there has been a steady decline of fatalities on Utah's roads. This declining trend can be attributed to four different areas:

  1. Planning efforts by a coordinated group of state agencies
  2. Continual efforts in engineering improvements in roads and vehicles
  3. Educational programs for new and existing drivers
  4. Enforcement initiatives to help ensure proper driving behavior

However, these combined efforts will only get us so far in saving lives. Every person behind the wheel has a responsibility to themselves and to other motorists to drive safely.
